UK Government announces £300 million boost in offshore wind investment

The Offshore Wind Growth Partnership (OWGP) has welcomed the recent announcement by the Prime Minister of £300 million in new Government funding to accelerate private investment in the UK’s offshore wind industry.

The funding, revealed at the international energy conference in London, marks a major step forward in strengthening the UK’s offshore wind supply chain, a move that is central to OWGP’s mission.

Commenting on the announcement, Anil Sayhan, OWGP Programme Director said:

“We strongly welcome the recent Government announcement which marks a positive step forward for the offshore wind supply chain.

The £300 million boost will help unlock critical investments in fabrication yards, factories, and other key facilities that will set UK offshore wind supply chain companies up for success.

“This year, we would have had several GW of offshore wind projects taking FID, had the CfD AR5 produced successful bids for offshore wind.

We believe UK companies can win more work sooner and showcase their competitiveness and ability to generate value. This grant funding scheme will accelerate the capacity growth our supply chain needs in order to be ready when those orders hit the market.”

About the Offshore Wind Growth Partnership

The Offshore Wind Growth Partnership (OWGP) is the UK’s flagship supply chain growth funding and business support organisation dedicated to offshore wind. OWGP was established as part of the UK Offshore Wind Sector Deal. Its mission is to accelerate development of the UK’s offshore wind supply chain. Since its inception, OWGP has supported over 300 UK companies, helping to generate know-how, economic value, highly skilled jobs, and export income.

OWGP operates as a not-for-profit private company limited by guarantee with funding for its activities provided by the Offshore Wind Industry Council.

In December 2024, it was announced that OWGP will expand its activities to take on the role of the Offshore Wind Industrial Growth Plan Delivery Body (“IGP Delivery Body”). The IGP Delivery Body’s role and objectives are described in the Industrial Growth Plan (published in April 2024), available on the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC) website.
