Energy Minister Michael Shanks has announced that the Offshore Wind Growth Partnership (OWGP) will become the new Delivery Body for the offshore wind sector’s Industrial Growth Plan (IGP). The Offshore Wind Industry Council’s (OWIC) decision to designate OWGP as the new Delivery Body aims to boost investment into the UK supply chain, aligned with Government and wider sources of public and private funding.
The announcement was made earlier today at the UK Offshore Wind Supply Chain Spotlight 2024 at ExCel London. Organised by the OWGP and the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, Spotlight brought together 100 exhibitors and over 550 delegates to showcase cutting-edge technologies and discuss actionable strategies to scale the UK’s offshore wind capabilities.
The IGP was launched in April 2024 by RenewableUK, OWIC, The Crown Estate and Crown Estate Scotland with the aim of growing the offshore wind supply chain to accelerate and de-risk delivery, as well as grow market share and technology leadership for the UK. As the OWGP transitions to become the new IGP Delivery Body, it will work in collaboration with OWIC to support investment and strengthen the supply chain. Working closely with partners and stakeholders, the Delivery Body will oversee implementation of the Growth Plan, monitor progress, and ensure it remains fit for purpose.
Speaking in the opening keynote session address at the event alongside ORE Catapult Chair Ronnie Bonnar and Innovate UK Interim Executive Chair Dr. Stella Peace, Energy Minister Michael Shanks MP said:
“The Offshore Wind Industry Council will continue to bring us together to coordinate action, particularly on the Industrial Growth Plan, and I can tell you the Offshore Wind Growth Partnership is expanding its activities to take on the role of the IGP delivery body.”
OWIC Supply Chain Vice-Chair Clark MacFarlane said:
“This appointment reflects the success OWGP and OWIC have achieved by working together to support firms across the UK to grow, innovate and win work in offshore wind. We look forward to this next phase of work to implement the Growth Plan and secure new investment in the UK supply chain.”
Tim Pick, OWGP Board Chair said:
“As the OWGP transitions into the Delivery Body for the growth plan, we will act as a coordinator, aligning efforts across industry, government, and stakeholders to maximise impact. This is a moment of alignment for the sector – where collaboration will determine our ability to meet both national and global demand for offshore wind capacity.”
Anil Sayhan, OWGP Programme Director, said:
“As the sector enters a phase of rapid expansion, Spotlight serves as both a reflection on the progress made and a call to action to keep pushing forward. We are excited to be assuming the IGP Delivery Body role and look forward to working with all our stakeholders in the implementation phase, ensuring we deliver for the UK supply chain.”
