A closer look at safety performance software
Fennex secured funding through OWGP’s Innovation Grant to develop WindSafe™, an AI-powered, cloud-based solution that enhances safety performance and operational reliability in the wind industry. With a strong foundation in oil and gas, Fennex sought to adapt its proven technology, creating a new product that would diversify its offerings across offshore energy.
To accelerate this transition and gain deeper insight into industry needs and market opportunities, Fennex also sought additional support through the OWGP WEST programme. Their primary goal was to leverage their existing expertise and proven innovations in the oil and gas industry to develop capability in the fast-growing renewable sector, expanding the reach and value of their digital solutions.

Before
Prior to engaging with OWGP, Fennex was a well-established leader in the oil and gas sector, specialising in tailored digital transformation solutions for energy companies.
Looking to expand into the renewables space, Fennex applied for an Innovation Grant from OWGP to develop WindSafe™, a cloud-based, data-driven digital platform tailored to the offshore wind sector.
The proposed digital platform would enable offshore wind operators and contractors to collaborate seamlessly, enhancing safety, reducing costs, and improving operational reliability.

After a thorough evaluation of Fennex’s application, OWGP recognised WindSafe™ as a unique solution capable of enhancing safety performance and operational reliability for offshore wind operators and contractors—offering significant benefits to the sector as a whole.
Kicking off the project in March 2023, Fennex harnessed its skilled, Microsoft-certified development team to build on its award-winning BBSS™ technology, and applying its proven “Crawl, Walk, Run” methodology to systematically design and deploy WindSafe™ through three key workstreams over 18 months. As part of its approach, FENNEX conducted an extensive stakeholder engagement piece to evaluate how WindSafe™ could be adopted by offshore wind developers, with input from AREG, NZTC, Shell, Vattenfall, Scottish Power Renewables and OEUK.
During its engagement with OWGP, Fennex also sought additional support through the WEST programme, leveraging access to specialist expertise from our delivery partner Everoze, who provided market intelligence insights and guidance. This strategic move aimed to deepen sector knowledge, refine product positioning within the supply chain, and accelerate growth by enhancing understanding of customer challenges and market competition.
After
Following the successful completion of the WEST and Innovation Grant programmes, Fennex secured its first pilot customer, the BlueFloat Energy | Nadara Partnership, to trial WindSafe™ across four projects, with the potential to expand further into additional projects in Italy.
Now commercially available, WindSafe™ provides offshore operators and contractors with real-time insights into critical risk factors, enabling smarter resource allocation and equipping workers with the right tools and training to enhance safety.
Fennex continues to strengthen its presence in the renewable energy sector, having recently participated in a regional F4OR programme run by Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult. At the tail end of 2024 Fennex was accepted into ORE Catapult’s Launch Academy programme to further advance its WindSafe™ solution.
