Delivery

The technology roadmaps developed by the Offshore Wind Innovation Hub (OWIH) will be used to identify the high potential areas of new technology and supply chain services. It will provide mentoring services, IP management, access to technical skills and market connectivity to help companies to create product development plans to expand and future-proof their product range. Particular focus will be applied to requirements gathered from global markets to identify specific challenges that UK companies could address.

Case Study

Company D is developing a IoT communications platform for autonomous robotics.  The technology builds on lessons from the space and mining sectors to provide control and data transfer in harsh environments with failsafe systems to safeguard assets.  This is an enabling technology that requires standards to be agreed and commitment from multiple developers to facilitate widespread uptake.

The OWGP has identified autonomous inspection as a key industry challenge and communications and control as specific aspects requiring solutions.  Company D responds to the innovation challenge and support from the OWGP enables requirements to be gathered from end-users.  OWGP supports the development of a standard with approval from developer partners and a demonstration project is used to provide confidence to developers that the IoT comms platform should be adopted for all new projects in the UK.  IP is protected and the success of deployment and ownership of the standards in the UK leads to global export contracts.
